Although it’s easy to visit Barcelona knowing only English, living in Barcelona can be tricky if you have not yet mastered Catalan or Spanish. A big tip that everyone should know is how to change the browser setting on your phone or your computer to “Translate pages in Catalan/Spanish” All websites are then converted automatically to your preferred language. Downloading the Google translate App (iOS or Android) lets you translate text from a photo, which is super useful in restaurants or in local stores.

Obtaining an NIE (Foreigners ID)
Foreigners having an economic, professional or social connection with Spain may apply personally for an N.I.E. see the Government of Spain Or if you want some assistance you can use this Paid Service
Register at your local Adjundment (Local Government office):
To receive your “Certificado de Empadronamiento” Which is an official registration certificate of where you live.
Public Health
Register at your local CAP office (Centre d’Atenció Primaria) bringing your “Certificado de Empadronamiento” and “NIE” to obtain a public health card.

Independent advice, information and support for all interested citizens in Spain, this to include visitors, expatriates and Spaniards alike. You can also find things like Brexit info here.
Social Security & Minimum Wage
You can visit seg-social.es or if you prefer you can visit other Social Security offices in towns like Cerdanyola del Valles without an appointment – You need NIE and a written job offer before you can get a social security number)
